Philanthropic response to COVID-19

4 Apr 2020

You may have seen news that the Australian Communities Foundation and Philanthropy Australia have launched a COVID-19 funding platform to support a coordinated philanthropic funding response to the global pandemic.

The COVID-19 National Funding Platform brings together potential funders with organisations who are in need of funds.

No aspect of Australian society is untouched by the unfolding pandemic and this quick move by both organisations recognises that so many communities and the not for profits who support them, will be deeply affected.

It also recognises that there will be others whose generosity and philanthropy will help keep charities working and important programs running.

Charities Crisis Cabinet

In other important news, a Charities Crisis Cabinet has also been formed to help guide Australian’s charitable sector through the COVID-19 Crisis.

The cabinet is co-chaired by the Reverend Tim Costello and former ACNC boss, Susan Pascoe.

Read about the intent of the cabinet and its push to ensure the charitable sector, which employs 1.3 million Australians, has access to support packages currently being considered and delivered for business.

JobKeeper payments

Certain organisations will also be able to utilise the Government’s recently announced JobKeeper payments of $1500 per fortnight for employees of eligible businesses. For those struggling to retain employees or needing to stand them down for a period of time, this is an option to be explored.

We will bring you more news on how the Ross Trust is responding to COVID-19 and its impacts in coming months as we build on our initial response
